Titles, authors, and features that belong to a crime list, not a generic magazine theme

Editors can ship a new title or interview without a one-off landing page

About DeadGoodBooks

  • DeadGoodBooks is a UK crime and thriller imprint site. The tone is the product: features, authors, and new titles have to feel like the list, not like a corporate blog.
  • Readers come for recommendations and interviews. The CMS has to make those pages easy to keep coming.
  • Imprint sites fail when every campaign is a custom build. The work was WordPress that can carry the mood without a developer for every post.
  • This write-up sits with the Penguin publishing-platform work.

Project overview

DeadGoodBooks needed a WordPress home for a crime list: title features, author pieces, and a front end that holds the imprintu2019s tone.

I built the content structure and templates so new titles and interviews land in the same system instead of becoming a tangle of one-off pages.

Project goals

01

Model titles, authors, and features so the imprint stays related in the CMS.

02

Keep the crime-list tone in templates that still work on a phone.

03

Give editors a path to publish without a landing-page build for every title.

Client's words

He gave our crime list a WordPress home that matches the tone of the imprint — features, authors, and new titles without a tangle of one-off pages.
